Winning projects of the 8th edition of the EPSE Awards Competition were announced on the 21st of October at the K Fair in Düsseldorf. Since 2007, this competition recognizes the best projects made out of polycarbonate.

EPSE Awards is an internal competition and the Awards 2016 is its 8th edition.The aim of this event is to promote unique properties of polycarbonate and a wide array of applications in which it may be used.
In today’s world it is new buildings must comply with the energy-efficient and environmental restrictions. Nevertheless, materials with which they are made shall enable architects and designers to deliver outstanding and memorable projects. Combining the ‘green’ aspect with the ‘design’ aspect is not an easy task, however, polycarbonate (PC) is the material that performs extremely well in both of this roles.
Multiwall Polycarbonate Sheets have been on the market for over 40 years. They find their application mainly in cladding, roofing, skylights, sheds, greenhouses and verandas.
Today, most industrial buildings are made with this multi-purpose material which offers a multitude of advantages in terms of High Environmental Quality (HEQ). Some of these advantages include perfect insulation qualities, durability or high impact resistance.
EPSE – the European Polycarbonate Sheet Extruders association comprised of the top-level PC sheet producers in Europe – launches EPSE Quality Label.

This year, the European Polycarbonate Sheets Extruders group is organizing its 7th Awards Competition to recognise projects made out of polycarbonate that are the most innovative, the most sustainable and with the best design. The Awards Ceremony will take place on the 3rd of November at the Batimat Fair in Paris Nord, Villepinte and will announce the winners.
EPSE, the European Polycarbonate Sheet Extruders, a sector group of EuPC, elected a new president at their last General Assembly on 3rd of March 2015 at the headquarters of EPSE in Brussels.
It's a fact that up to 75% of fuel consumption is related to vehicle weight. So it's no surprise that car designers – always looking at ways to improve their vehicles – place a major emphasis on reducing this weight as much as possible. That's why, more and more, they're turning to polycarbonate as an alternative for metal and glass.
This year EPSE organizes the 7th Awards Competition to recognize the most innovative, most sustainable and the best design projects which were made out of polycarbonate. The Awards Ceremony, where the winning projects will be annouced, will take place on the 3rd of November at the Batimat Fair in Paris Nord, Villepinte.

EPSE was created in 2003 by 5 prominent polycarbonate manufacturers as a sector group of EuPC, the European organization for plastics converters. Since then the number of members has more than doubled. Today EPSE consists of 10 full members and is supported by 3 associate members
During the 10th EPSE Anniversary the association will celebrate its recent achievements.
The event highlighted recent achievements of the association as well as its role and activities to promote polycarbonate and its versatile properties and benefits.
More than 40 guests came to take part in the event where they were welcomed by the EPSE president - Jean-Philippe Coste and the EPSE members.
The organization is currently working via European Committee for Standardization (CEN) to create European Norms for Polycarbonate (PC) sheet and establish a CE-Mark for these products. The work also expands to getting a CE-Mark for these products as building products under the EU-CPR (Construction Products Regulation).
Greenhouses, unlike other structures, have an ultra-light design and do not use costly, complex substructures. Lightweight, rugged and transparent polycarbonate is ideal for greenhouses coverings. It allows maximum daylight into the greenhouse which increases its fecundity per square meter.
Most of the professional polycarbonate sheet producers of greenhouses are located in Europe. Corrugated and low thickness multi-wall polycarbonate sheets are the most suitable for greenhouses covering.
Key concept in the CPR is the Declaration of Performance (DoP) of a product. This DoP gives the manufacturer the opportunity to deliver information about the essential characteristics of his product he wants to deliver to the market.
The manufacturer, by drawing up his DoP, takes the responsibility for the conformity of the construction product with the declared performance.
EPSE Awards 2013 is the 6th edition of this internal competition which and this year it attracted 16 projects among them stadiums, public buildings and artistic installations. All the nominees are a perfect illustration of a wide variety of areas in which polycarbonate may be applied. It is not only used in construction and architecture (e.g. roof glazings, claddings, canopies, skylights, façades) but thanks to its lightweight, high transparency and excellent processability polycarbonate is often used in creation of artworks (e.g. sculptures and installations).
Out of the 16 very successful projects submitted to this edition of Awards, the jury selected winners for the most innovative, sustainable and the best design project categories.

During this meeting, the members unanimously elected a new President, Vice-President and Treasurer for 2012 - 2014. Mr. Jean-Philippe Coste, Managing Director of Kaysersberg Plastics will replace Mr. David Gallina of dott.Gallina. Mr. Hanoch Goldman, Marketing Director of PALRAM, will take over as Vice-President and Avner Ganem, Sales Manager of Polygal, will be Treasurer.
The objective of the festival was to introduce contemporary architecture in urban context to the general public at large. This annual event gives an opportunity for young architects to explore and experiment with new fields of architectural design in relation to the city dwellings.

The advantages of multi-layer polycarbonate sheets are numerous.

The annual awards competition recognises some of the best and most innovative projects that showcase the unique properties of Polycarbonate and its wide range of applications.
Since its inauguration in 1958, the lush vegetation and wildlife from Asia and the Americas has made the the greenhouse at Luisenpark in Mannheim, Germany a popular attraction. Thirteen years ago work to modernise the greenhouse was started by replacing a large portion of the glass roofing and facades with high-quality, multiwall polycarbonate sheets. This installation was undertaken by a member of the European Polycarbonate Sheet Extruders (www.epse.org), who worked in close collaboration with a metal and steel construction company.
After decades of dealing with individual regional or national based fire classification systems, the building and construction industry can finally benefit from a unified European-wide fire testing standard accepted in all EU Member States.
The Single Burning Item (SBI) EN 13823 Test is the first harmonised standard for fire-performance testing of building and construction products. Based on the results from this test products are classified according to the European standard EN 13501-1.

The EPSE Award is not a design competition; it recognises the benefits, innovativeness and the creative applications of polycarbonate.
